www.romalazio.co.uk / live match report: Favourites to go down with a horrible fixture list in front of them, Atalanta deserved at least a point, and were denied by the brilliance of one keeper and the buttery fingers of their own. Roma were so bad and expectation so high after the 2-2 draw in Florence between Fiorentina and Inter, Giornata 33 was difficult viewing at times. Beset with nerves and incapable of stringing together a pair of decent passes for 20 long minutes around the hour mark, the capital challenge for Scudetto honours #4 was hanging by the thinnest of threads right up until the final whistle. No Juan for Roma, so Mexes made his return and surprised everyone by showing Burdisso and Riise how to defend against man mountain strikers like Simone Tiribocchi, Lazio youth star and lumbering old school Serie A hitman if ever there was one. Atalanta started well, only Totti’s 30 yard flay wide of the post and Burdisso’s rake at Consigli from a messy corner worthy of mention, before Vucinic’s drive was spilled over the line. Marco Cassetti doubled home advantage with a cool flashed header into the net from Totti’s whipped centre, with Daniele Capelli all at sea. John Arne Riise had a shocker, it was his reckless clearance which led to Tiribocchi’s precise finish into the corner. The no-nonsense, burly striker terrorized the Roman defence while mercurial wing play from Valdes, who was better than absolutely sensational for the entire second half, threatened to sink Roma without trace. Burdisso and Riise were run ragged by Ferreira Pinto, architect of similar mayhem down the opposite flank. Only Luca Toni got close to Consigli after the break with a couple of missed half chances. Lazio will be desperate to get at their rivals on Sunday, who looked vulnerable at the back all afternoon, but you never know which Roma will turn up on derby day. Atalanta Ultras were targeted by CASMS, so Ranieri’s rise to the summit of Serie A was unopposed on terraces occupied by a partisan crowd of 60,000 / as roma soccer tickets / roma tickets

www.roma-tickets.co.uk / live match report: Hellish ticketing conditions overshadowed this, the latest Ranieri – Mourinho head to head which in the end, pushed Roma towards pole position for Scudetto honours. 450,000 fans could not get seats, and those who did make it through the turnstiles can count themselves very lucky indeed, in particular those who bought tickets from us for less than £50 as they were selling for £800 before kick off. Not since 2001 had the Giallorossi beaten Inter at home in the league, but in their best form for many years under Ranieri, whose tinkering has taken Roma to the edge of greatness, they braved the predictably thuggish tactics we have come to expect from Inter under Maureen (seven yellow cards, no less). Menez stood in for Totti and Simone Perrotta started. Julio Cesar fumbled Burdisso’s straightforward header from David Pizarro’s deep free kick, and Daniele De Rossi got in front of Samuel to score after quarter of an hour in an electric atmosphere. Vucinic went very close with a brace of long rangers, Riise’s piledriver nicked the post, Samuel’s header hit the bar and Lucio fired just wide before half time. Julio Sergio was at full stretch to keep out a Diego Milito snapshot and Sneijder’s sharp curler, while Toni’s flicked header flew inches over the bar. Great work by Sneijder to set up Milito’s equalizer but his initial pass played both Pandev and Milito offside. Toni controlled Rodrigo Taddei’s mishit from a poor Lucio clearance, swivelled and found the corner with time to spare. Brighi earned a clear penalty from Julio Cesar and was booked for simulation, substitute Chivu stamped on Toni and Totti’s late cameo calmed Roma with some sublime touches. Milito’s thunderous shot which cracked the upright was the last action of a truly great match. One point the difference now and Scudetto fever is catching in the capital / roma football tickets / official as roma tickets

www.romalazio.co.uk / live match report: The unlikeliest of lads won it to secure six crucial points for Lazio in four days. Forrest Gump thumped Mauri’s cross past Curci after six minutes and Cruz, who jogged on to a chorus of boos, scored immediately to silence the imbeciles who question his commitment. The Tuscan minnows arrived on form which was widely reported as being good enough to avoid the drop, but a poor record against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico seemed to weigh heavily on their minds. For thirty minutes Siena were outplayed. Rocchi, Brocchi, Mauri and Ledesma were handed far too much space around the box, and Curci did well to parry shots from Rocchi and Zárate. Curci and Rosi, players co-owned by Roma and Siena, were in defiant mood which infuriated the crowd. Aleandro Rosi’s aggression culminated in a brief sparring match with Kolarov, and yellow cards were awarded to each. Only Larrondo troubled Nando Muslera in the second half, and even then only sparingly, but he had the beating of Stendardo. Cruz’s bicycle kick over Curci was decisive. Mauri, who has weathered the storm, is getting better and better with every game. His chipped effort on goal from the D clipped the crossbar. It is sad to report that small groups of former Lazio Ultras who long since decamped from the divided Curva Nord into the Distinti Sud Est, are vociferous in their support but occasionally racist too, whenever a black opponent plays well. Wherever Lazio land come May, be it Serie A or elsewhere, is completely irrelevant for as long as racism divides their fans on the terraces. Italian Ultras envy our game and admire our football firms, their casual style and hooligan element. If only they’d adopt our more moderate football watching activities too like beer, banter and chat / football tickets rome / romalazio.co.uk

www.lazio-tickets.co.uk / live match report: Lotito’s two match ticket promotion worked well. Without it, even though Lazio are in real trouble, far less than 45,000 would have raised themselves. 4,000 or so Bari fans made the trip and they helped make life inordinately difficult for the Serie B bound Biancocelesti. Recent form had been absolutely atrocious. This effort was dire. Sergio Almiron capitalized on a long overdue howler by Nando Muslera minutes after the break and soon after, Edgar Alvarez raced clear, rounded the befuddled keeper and clipped the ball into the roof of an empty net. Without trying to explain exactly why it is that Lazio have fallen so far at such a crucial time, we are praying that the wins will come before April 18th. A poor attempt by the Curva Nord to display L A Z I O (at least, that seemed to be the idea) through 11,000 blue and white cards held aloft, faded into a mass of illegibility in double quick time. Mauro Zárate dressed for the occasion in a kitsch council estate combo kit of pajama-like grey trackies, the suspended striker took his place astride the Sandri canvas in anticipation of a rousing performance and three points. Two goals down, Lazio were handed a lifeline on 77 minutes but Kolarov more or less passed his penalty kick to Gillet. As curious a goal scoring attempt as Rizzoli’s baffling decision to award the spot kick in the first place. Firmani was his usual combative self and engaged in mild aggression with Almiron, Floccari forced a couple of point blank saves and late Cruz headers worried Gillet. Or maybe not. Herr Hitzlsperger was brought on for Matuzalém then replaced by Mauri, his 20 metre blockbuster the only time Lazio really threatened a goal. Needless to say, paper fires burned in the Curva Nord and Tevere Laterale Nord at the whistle, long before which 25,000 fans had left wide open spaces in the Olimpico.

www.romalazio.co.uk / live match report: The Irriducibili et al. were on strike and their absence made for a better atmosphere. As a result, those who attended saw a more confident Lazio, cruelly denied in the penultimate minute of recupero. Mauri had a shocker. It wasn’t just another off day for the midfielder, of which there have been far too many lately, he was so bad that his performance outweighed all other considerations at the final whistle. At times he looks dependable, but never more than that. For 99.9% of the time against Fiorentina he missed connections and chances for fun, and Lazio managers still support him. Sitting three places above lowly Siena at this stage of the season, means every home game must be won in order to reach the safe zone of 40 points. The Viola had to field a makeshift attack with Gilardino, Vargas and Mutu unavailable. Berni replaced Muslera (one match suspension). Lazio took the lead very early doors through Siviglia, who helped on a corner kick with the back of his boot in the near post area. The ball arced up and over eleven players in the six yard box and dropped into the opposite corner of the net, to the astonishment of Frey. Fiorentina were unable to make progress towards Berni, and had to make do with a regulation 20 metre swat from Marco Donadel in a disappointing first half for the visitors. Stefano Mauri’s woeful scoring attempt when clean through, cost Lazio what would have been a decisive two goal cushion. Stevan Jovetic was lively but with no strikers to aim for, his creativity proved ineffective. Lollo De Silvestri was in determined mood, constant abuse directed his way by aberrant Laziali spurred him on to send a diving downwards header on goal, which was beaten clear by Berni. After the interval, Jovetic let fly from distance, Krøldrup sent an overhead dolly into Berni’s breadbasket and 16 year old Senegalese striker Khouma Babacar headed over the bar, before Fiorentina’s late momentum finally paid off. Keirrison tapped in from a fine Jovetic assist to spoil a hitherto respectable home effort. Edy Reja was dismissed and has his back firmly against the wall already. Serie B beckons / www.romalazio.co.uk / ss lazio tickets

www.lazio-tickets.co.uk / live match report: Welcome to Cataniagate. Sinisa sat out a touchline ban in the stands, and how he must have enjoyed watching events unfold from the comfort of his VIP seat, under the despairing gaze of an exasperated Lotito. Relentless abuse from the Curva Nord never seems to bother the beleaguered President, but this time he was threatened eye to eye by irate fans in the relative safety of the Tribuna Monte Mario. Mihajlovic came very close to joining Lazio before choosing Catania. Like Maxi Lopez. Ballardini’s last stand turned into a sneaky trip from behind by Sinisa’s gang of Argies, but no one could really deny the marauding bandidos their win. This was the head to head from hell, two clubs staring down the Serie B barrel with no margin for error. Lazio trudged pitchwards at kick off with three new recruits, brought in to tie up an absolutely crucial three points bare basics minimum. At least that was the plan. They failed, and Dias was at fault for Maxi’s winner. We all know that Ballardini has had to grapple with a hefty injury list, but his squad looked bereft of ideas, short on class, lost as to whatever formation they were supposed to be playing in. Catania gave up the ghost here against Roma in the TIM Cup on January 26th., but had no trouble seeing off Lazio inside one hour. Mauro Zárate hit the post and ran himself ragged. Firmani battled. Baronio spent half the match arms aloft wondering who to pass to. Radu was distracted and made a succession of unforced errors. Mauri, the pits. Hitzlsperger, idem. It’s never an easy task to predict Lotito’s next move, but surely to God this is the end of Ballardini, Mauri, Baronio and Dabo. At the bitter end, accelerants were used in the Distinti Nord Ovest and Curva Nord to fuel numerous paper fires, which smouldered across 15 or 20 rows of vandalised plastic seating. Laziali stood their ground until the police moved in / ss lazio football tickets / lazio tickets

www.romalazio.co.uk / live match report: Toni’s brace capped a party atmosphere as Roma cruised to an uncomplicated, unchallenged win without Totti and De Rossi. Genoa were last seen at the minute’s silence to respect those who were killed in Haiti. Pockets of Giallorossi fans cheered, jeered, shouted and sang throughout. Fairly typical. Il Grifoni disappeared without trace soon after. Brighi in for De Rossi for Roma while Gian Piero Gasparini again had to make do without form striker Palladino. Hernan Crespo was benched behind Suazo who he eventually replaced but failed to improve upon. Suazo was awful, he tested Julio Sergio with a regulation 25 metre drive in acres of space and then called it a day. Although there were no opportunities for him to squander, Suazo created nothing either and looked most disinterested at events taking shape around him, ergo Roma taking the lead and dominating play in all departments. Genoa were not able to take any of their three difficult chances: David Suazo’s long ranger, Julio Sergio’s drop which almost let in Mesto and inbetween Toni’s ear celebrations, Cassetti’s weak pass back to his keeper which Fatic caught up with but skewed well wide. Perrotta hammered Toni’s knock down straight at Amelia after two minutes but beat the Roman custodian from a narrow angle quarter of an hour later. Juan’s header was tipped out to Vucinic whose blocked effort sat up well for the Lancastrian to score. Toni slid home Vuci’s low centre then flashed a twisting header over Amelia from a central free kick. Vucinic set up all three goals with Pizarro and Brighi in control in midfield. Brighi fluffed his lines twelve yards out with perhaps too much time to pick his spot before the final whistle. Difficult to pin down Roma’s top dog, Perrotta, Vucinic and Matteo Brighi were all as excellent as David Pizarro, who is revelling in the form of his life. Toni could have had four, he directed a steepling header marginally wide and Amelia saved low down from another towering colpo di testa. Roma have stopped leaking goals under Ranieri and seem to be back to their attacking best a la Spalletti, with Totti still to come. If, and it’s a big if, the Milan clubs play a draw in the Derby della Madonnina next Sunday and Roma win in Turin on the Saturday night, Ranieri will be right up there challenging not only for a Champions League place, but the Scudetto too. Make no mistake about that / as roma soccer tickets / roma tickets online

www.romalazio.co.uk / live match report: Both teams have little or no chance of qualifying for European competition next term, so former Lazio manager Delio Rossi rolled out the heavy artillery as did former Palermo manager Ballardini, which made for a contest of the highest quality. Delio Rossi’s return was applauded by all, none shall forget his wild celebrations after Behrami’s 92nd. minute derby day winner a few years ago. Muslera’s brilliance made sure it stayed 0-0 at the interval after serial incompetence by Stefano Mauri, whose tendency to engage in sloppy play wasted a host of very decent openings for Lazio. Kjaer and Cassani were all over Floccari in the first half and Zárate’s mind was elsewhere, fuelled in the main by grossly inaccurate transfer spin surrounding his future which has affected his game. Muslera had some close calls with Miccolo and Pastore, while Sirigu had to be alert to keep out Floccari’s header. Palermo’s dominance increased after the break but Kolarov was beginning to make his presence felt in the middle of the park. The Serbian defender arrowed a cool opener into the corner of the net from 20 metres after another bold Maurito assault on goal was cleared his way. Floccari timed his run to perfection to connect with Zárate’s sliderule pass and lash the ball beyond Sirigu for 2-0, after he had raced past Cassani and wrongfooted Kjaer, both of whom were impassable up until that point. Brocchi almost made it three with a tricky curler, pawed clear at the very last moment by Sirigu. Radu cleared off the line twice to becalm six yard box mayhem. 3-4-1-2 is good to go if Modibo Diakité can remain calm under pressure. Either way, his confident darts forward make for interesting viewing. Lazio have been drawn against Fiorentina (A) in the Quarter Final, which will be played next week / romalazio.co.uk / ss lazio soccer tickets

www.roma-tickets.co.uk / live match report: So many new Ultras groups at Roma matches these days, especially in the Curva Nord. No one really knows who’s who anymore so we thank La Mia Roma for their exceptional heads up on Giallorossi support. Almost fifty groups are listed including ‘Roma Casual Firm’ (don’t nick our language now will you lads? not been seen for a while, probably in Manchester following City); ‘Roma Mods’ (!!!) and ‘Irish Clan’ (Pro-IRA Italians who are sure that sipping half a pint of Guinness signals rebellion). Roma Ultras are an easy target, so perhaps better to move on and review the match. Luca Toni’s name was accorded the kind of hero’s welcome (return) normally reserved for Totti, but whether his move has been engineered to realize personal aspirations of joining the Azzurri in South Africa or inspire a swift return to the heady days of Spalletti’s tactical genius, only time will tell. Either way, misfiring strikers Baptista and Menez have not made the impact expected of them. Vucinic’s patchy but occasionally radiant purple form and Totti’s injury problems have weighed Roma down with legions of embittered fans who have turned on Baptista and just don’t care about Menez, so Toni’s full debut was welcomed with real warmth and great expectations. De Rossi and Pizarro pulled plucky Chievo all over the park. The visitors never really came close to beating Lobont, who replaced Vucinic very early after Doni was dismissed for handling outside the box. Toni had a couple of great chances to score almost immediately, and earned the corner kick from which Daniele De Rossi planted a downward header beyond Sorrentino’s grasp. Roma were attacking the Nord without mercy and Taddei made a horrible mess of Riise’s invitation cross. The Norwegian defender was irresistible and urged ever on by his band of mates in the lesser Curva. Roma are prepared to buy Nicolás Burdisso outright from Inter after consistently sterling form, he gave Riise a run for his money with a flawless defensive show. Toni won the penalty which Sorrentino somehow kept out on 55 minutes. Baptista may have played his last game for Roma, he was booed on from the bench but won vital seconds in recupero to make sure of all three points. Despite controlling the game for long periods with their extra man, the Flying Donkeys posed no threat. A great start for Toni, who can win over more fans at home again next Sunday when Genoa limp into town on a terrible run of form / as roma match tickets / roma tickets

giornata 17 is done and dusted, roma are 3 places behind leaders inter while lazio languish 5th. from bottom. at the halfway point of the current serie a campionato 2009-2010, here are the last blog reports for each club and we look forward to seeing you in the new year!

AS Roma News: Roma pummelled Panucci’s Parma and replace them in 4th. Unlikely scorers Burdisso and Brighi earned the points and the recovery is now complete. The heat is off Sensi, Ranieri’s conservative approach seems to have worked and Roma will sign the proven striker they needed two years ago in the January transfer window. Palermo have made an approach for Stefano Guberti who will not leave Roma for less than €4 million. Next up Cagliari (A) on January 6th.

SS Lazio News: Honour in defeat? Perhaps, but Lazio still aren’t scoring. While Delio Rossi will try his very best to recruit former favourites in January, including Cristian Ledesma, and Pandev heads up to one or other of the Milan clubs, Davide Ballardini can only hope and pray that Lotito makes that money available to sign Maxi Lopez. Anyone will do, anyone who can play alongside Zárate. Rocchi is redundant without Pandev and Il Jardinero, baggage. Eto’o's rebound reaction won it in the Stadio Meazza. Next up resurgent Livorno (H) on January 6th.
